Purpose and Commitment

Özkaya KHS International School is committed to fostering a school environment where diversity is celebrated, equity is actively pursued, inclusion is practiced daily, justice is promoted, and belonging is experienced by all. We believe that these principles are essential to student well-being, academic excellence, and global citizenship.

Our DEIJB policy reflects both international values and our responsibility to comply with Turkish national law, including respect for cultural norms, constitutional rights, and equality under the law.

Scope

This policy applies to all members of the school community:

It applies to school life, curriculum, recruitment, disciplinary systems, and extracurricular activities.

Definitions

  • Diversity: The presence and appreciation of differences among individuals, including but not limited to culture, language, race, gender, religion, ability, learning styles, and family structure.
  • Equity: The commitment to fair treatment, access, and opportunity for all, recognizing that some individuals may need different support to succeed.
  • Inclusion: Creating an environment in which every individual feels respected, valued, and able to participate fully in school life.
  • Justice: Addressing structural inequalities and holding the school community accountable to shared values of fairness and respect.
  • Belonging: Ensuring all individuals feel seen, heard, and connected in a way that affirms their identity and dignity.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership Team: Provide strategic direction and model DEIJB principles.
  • All Staff: Create inclusive classrooms and uphold this policy.
  • Students: Treat others with respect and speak out against injustice.
  • Parents/Guardians: Partner with the school and contribute to an inclusive culture.

Monitoring and Evaluation

The DEIJB Committee will review this policy annually. Feedback from staff, students, and parents will be gathered through surveys, focus groups, and meetings. Regular reporting to the Board of Governors ensures accountability and ongoing improvement.
