Role of the Board

  • Provide strategic leadership and long-term planning for the school.
  • Oversee policy, finance, and resource management, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Hold the Head of School accountable for academic standards, safeguarding, and operations.
  • Champion the school’s ethos and strengthen engagement with the wider community.

Governance Structure

  • Chair of the Board: Leads governance, sets agendas, and facilitates effective meetings.
  • Committees: Finance, Safeguarding, Curriculum, Admissions, or others as required.
  • Principal & Head of School: Provide operational reports and are accountable to the board.

Meeting Protocols

  • Attend scheduled meetings, typically once per term.
  • Review agenda papers in advance and arrive prepared to contribute.
  • Engage constructively, maintain respect, and pursue shared solutions.
  • Approve minutes promptly and monitor follow-up actions.

  • Safeguarding and child protection.
  • Health and safety standards.

Training & Development

  • New governors receive an induction covering statutory duties and school priorities.
  • Board members engage in ongoing CPD, including COBIS webinars and internal workshops.
  • Training records are maintained to evidence compliance and growth.

Governor Code of Conduct

  • Act in the best interests of pupils and the school community.
  • Respect confidentiality and communicate with one clear collective voice.
  • Accept collective responsibility for decisions and pursue continuous improvement.
  • Treat all members of the community with courtesy, fairness, and respect.

Contact & Communication

  • Direct all communication to the board through the Chair unless an alternative route is agreed.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and avoid operational involvement unless delegated.
  • Record and respond to enquiries promptly, signposting to relevant policies when required.
