Purpose

At Özkaya KHS we recognize the important role that digital technology plays in supporting learning and communication. This policy aims to ensure that all students and staff use technology responsibly, safely, and respectfully, in line with the school’s safeguarding commitments and Turkish data protection laws (KVKK).

Scope

This policy applies to all members of the school community who use digital devices, networks, or online resources, including:

  • Students
  • Staff
  • Volunteers
  • Parents and visitors, where applicable

  • Safeguarding: Protect children from online harm and abuse.

  • Respect: Foster a culture of respect and appropriate online behaviour.

Acceptable Use

For Students

  • Use school devices and networks for educational purposes only.
  • Keep personal information private (no sharing of passwords, addresses, or contact details).
  • Report any inappropriate or harmful content to a trusted adult.
  • Be polite and respectful in all digital communications.
  • Use only school-approved online tools and platforms.

For Staff

  • Model safe and responsible digital behaviour.
  • Use school devices and platforms for professional purposes.
  • Protect student data and privacy at all times.
  • Report concerns or breaches to the school’s E-Safety Lead or Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Unacceptable Use

  • Accessing or sharing inappropriate, offensive, or illegal content.
  • Cyberbullying, harassment, or using digital tools to harm others.
  • Downloading unauthorized software or bypassing security filters.
  • Sharing or using personal social media in a way that conflicts with school policies.
  • Using digital tools for personal financial gain or activities unrelated to school.

Education and Awareness

  • Students: Regular e-safety lessons in ICT and PSHE curriculum, age-appropriate and aligned with Turkish cultural norms.
  • Staff: Annual training on digital safeguarding, data protection, and responsible use.
  • Parents: Guidance on supporting children’s safe use of technology at home.

Technical Measures

  • Internet filters and firewalls to block inappropriate content.
  • Secure passwords and device management systems.
  • Regular software and security updates to maintain protection.

Data Protection

All digital activities must comply with the Turkish KVKK and the school’s Data Protection Policy.

Staff must ensure that data (including student work, photos, and personal details) is stored securely and only shared with authorized personnel.

Reporting and Responding

  • Students: Report concerns to a trusted adult, teacher, or E-Safety Lead.
  • Staff: Report concerns to the E-Safety Lead or DSL.
  • All incidents will be logged and investigated in line with the school’s Safeguarding Policy.

Monitoring

  • The school reserves the right to monitor digital activity on school devices and networks.
  • Monitoring is carried out with respect for privacy and in accordance with Turkish law.

This policy will be reviewed annually or in response to updates in technology, safeguarding practices, or legal requirements.
